Help turn good ideas into funded programs.

Trans Empowerment Project is looking for volunteer Grant Writers to help us find and secure funding for programs that directly support 2TIGE (Two-Spirit, Trans, Intersex, and Gender Expansive) people and their communities.

Grant writing may happen behind the scenes, but its impact doesn't. Funding secured by our development team helps keep programs running, gets resources directly into people's hands, and gives TEP the capacity to keep building new ways to support our community.

We're looking for strong writers, thoughtful researchers, and detail-oriented humans who can help us tell that story to foundations and other institutional funders — and make a compelling case for why they should invest in this work.

What you'll do

Depending on your experience, interests, and availability, you may:

• Research foundations, corporations, and other institutional funding opportunities that align with TEP's mission and programs.
• Help identify and qualify prospective funders.
• Draft compelling letters of inquiry, grant proposals, applications, and supporting narratives.
• Adapt existing organizational language, program information, and impact data for different funding opportunities.
• Collaborate with TEP leadership and other grant-writing volunteers to gather the information needed for applications.
• Help maintain our grant calendar and keep upcoming deadlines from sneaking up on us.
• Review applications for clarity, consistency, accuracy, and alignment with funder requirements.
• Help track submitted proposals, decisions, reporting deadlines, and follow-up opportunities.

You won't be expected to magically know every detail about TEP or hunt down program data by yourself. We'll provide organizational information, existing language and materials, program context, and access to the people who can answer your questions.

You might be a great fit if you...

• Are a strong, persuasive writer who can turn complicated information into a clear and compelling story.
• Have excellent attention to detail and can follow sometimes-ridiculously-specific application instructions.
• Are organized and comfortable working toward deadlines.
• Can work independently while also communicating when you need information, feedback, or support.
• Are comfortable researching organizations and funding opportunities online.
• Are comfortable working in Google Workspace or willing to learn.
• Care deeply about racial, disability, economic, and gender justice and want your skills to support trans-led work.

Previous grant-writing or nonprofit development experience is strongly preferred , especially if you've contributed to successful proposals — but we don't expect you to know everything on day one. If you're an excellent writer with relevant fundraising, nonprofit, research, or persuasive-writing experience and want to grow your grant-writing skills, we'd still love to hear from you.

What you'll get from us

This isn't a "here's a grant deadline, good luck!" kind of volunteer role.

You'll work alongside TEP leadership and other volunteers, have access to the information and materials you need, and receive context and feedback throughout the process. You'll also get hands-on experience with nonprofit fundraising and institutional giving while helping build sustainable funding for work that matters.

Most importantly, you'll be helping make sure TEP has the resources to keep showing up for 2TIGE people — not just when our community is making headlines, but every day.
